He have more initiative than you maybe

Outside of Arena maybe, but initiative doesn't do anything for Arena? As far as I know only star upgrades affect Arena but I guess I could be wrong.

Gear does matter in Arena unfortunately.
To answer your question, Lightning and Fire usually go first against Earth if you're facing them in Survival or if both of you have the same initiative + position.

From my experience the only ninja attribute that carries over to arena is initative(you can check on the arena interface it even says that after 1st attack,all attribute bonuses won`t be effective). You can track each of ur ninja initiative for arena by the hotkeys (i.e if ur arena ninja hot key is W, then he`ll have the same amount of initiative your W ninja outside the arena have). well it wasnt just the first attack earths mystery always beat mine also my refinements on main char are exactly the same as his but his battle armor is higher could that be it?

its based on average/total initiative of the team

Yeah I don't get it, I thought Arena was the one non pay to win place you could battle people.

Most likely since battle armor increases initiative.

Ok, a little bit of necroposting.
I fought my friend in arena today.
We had same formation. Exactly the same.
I had more initiative on every character, except for hinata, but she doesn't matter(she had only 15 more, so in summary among all characters i had more initiative than my friend).
And all my 3 other characters went 2nd. Even the one that has 100 more initiative in normal.
So... yeah. We are same levels, i have more initiative but i'm still going 2nd. The only thing i can think of is that my friend has more power. So whoever has more power goes first.

My friend and I just faced off against each other, and he has both a higher level and power than me, and I ended up going first at all times.

Something has to be bugged here if you ask me, or some mechanic always makes prio over others. I'd like a full mechanic info. But ofc they wont post it, figures...

From my experience this is just one of those things where you have to make mental notes. Some character skills just naturally have more initiative, from what it seems. Typically interrupts are the highest, followed by defensive skills and then supportive ones. It makes sense because all of these, in theory, would be something someone does preemptively to mitigate damage from an opponent. I'm not saying it's universal truth but it's what I've seen in my two months and logic makes sense.
