They get carried on to the next group, as long as that group has the skills upgraded to the level cap you had them at.

group skills carry over, but make sure the group you're transferring to –– is at least the same (or more) in group skills level than your previous group.
also, group contributions do not transfer with you to your new group. only group skills.

Going to a lower level skill group is not THAT bad, you don't actually lose the difference in level, they are just not active(no group is effectively lv 0 in that respect, it's just inactive)

Indeed, as contribution don't carry, you might wanna hit that wheel....
Also, it will be 8 hours before you can join the next one, best to leave at end of day and join early next morning. Doing events with your group skill rendered inactive means you will do much worse in dah event.
Also, it will be a week before you can join GNW again, counting from the time you joined the new group. If your group is mostly ok but have an inactive leader so baggies can't be handed out, know that the time it takes to be able to join GNW, thus get reward from it, in a new group is same as the time you have to wait for seniors to impeach the inactive leader and able to hand out the baggies.

They get carried ever. But if the group you join is a lower level then you will only get credit for the max in that group.

What happens if new group is lower than the previous group skills?

your max group skill would be that of your new group.
i.e.
Old group max group skill was lvl 40
You maxed till lvl 40
You left old group.
You transferred to new group with max group skill lvl 35
Your new group skill lvl is 35 (+ 5 overflow, which can't be used, not until your new group upgrades to group skill).
But, if your new group's group skill upgrades, yours would automatically go back to 40 (without doing the whole waiting and spending contribution points).

I hope this was easy to understand :'(
