It's not exactly random, it tries to even out the overall power of every battlefield. So as long as there's no big flunctuations on the power rankings it usually ends up similar. In our server for example the top 3 people in power are never on the same field, instead each is "leading" a camp. Same principle applies to everyone else, we're all placed in a way so the camps are "even"

Rank 1 is always with Rank 6. Rank 2 with Rank 5 and Rank 3 with Rank 4. For the rest I don't know.

What if a member on the Tuesday team doesn't turn up next Tuesday? Doesn't that mean the team will be at a disadvantage? The system distribute accordingly to power. The reason why there's similar teams is probably because not a lot of players participated and only a few active regulars, which is why you end up the same team most of the time.
