I usually do completely opposite, beat all survival with just main team. If you use the fact that you can position your ninjas to perfectly counter enemy and that you can retreat if unlucky combo on you happens (or until you get free combo from normal attacks to cheese much stronger enemy) without any penalty.
Survival is based solely on your level not power or anything and it's based on your current mains level the moment you 'see' the enemy, doesn't matter if she/he is in team or not. Usually 10th will be same, 11th and 12th higher, 12th could be up to 6 higher, power is irrelevant i had people 5k+ and 5k- there, hope you don't get someone very p2w.
Good strategy early on is push till 11th or even better 12th, till you scout the enemy, then do all your daily stuff and power up, then beat them once you are stronger, but this becomes pointless later on when you stop being able to gain a level a day or more.
As for teams, i used this to full clear survival early on, used this team all the way until 50+ when i farmed my first purple summon for better team.
Hinata *x *x
*x *x *x
Main Kakashi Sasuke
3
2
3
2
2
This team needs 2 star Sasuke, it won't work with 3. This was my general formation, but for survival change it vs your current enemy.
Don't forget in survival AI is very predictable, so if you run acupuncture/immobilize you can cancel their skills very easily and don't forget about retreat *on, you can have as many tries as you want without any penalties if you just retreat before the fight is decided.
