They were throwing him a surprise party, the losers. The only reason he was even going was to get all the birthday annoyances out of the way in a single moment. Otherwise people would be hounding him all day. For a second he considered how they even knew today was his birthday. It must have been Iruka, he would have access to the paperwork required to enter the academy. Let's get this over with he thought, and then he stepped into the room.

“SURPRISE” they all yelled in unison. “At least act surprised!” shouted Naruto. He scanned the room; full of familiar faces smiling through their teeth at him. They began to start handing him boxes and bags full of useless trinkets, and candies. He noticed an enormous cake across the room, it seemed like it just move. He silently activated his Sharingan, and sure enough a person crouched inside. This party couldn’t get any worse. They would eventually make him cut his cake then Sakura would pop out and create a scene.

“Happy Birthday Sasuke-kun” said Sakura. Now this genuinely surprised him. If she was out here then who was in the cake? That idiot Naruto was already in the crowd, well it could be a shadow clone, but he didn’t think Naruto would want to miss out on the food. Sakura stood there blushing holding out her gift. He took it and set it on the pile behind him and offered a curt “thanks”. He took stock of all of his classmates, nobody was missing. People patted him on the back, provided well wishes, and encouraged him to open gifts. But he needed to know whom it was lying in wait inside the giant cake.

He strode towards it and ignited the candles. “It is time to sing” he said, then he waited. The chorus seemed agonizingly long as a cacophony of poorly keyed voices rang out. “Happy Birthday, dear Sasuke, Happy Birthday to you! As soon as the last word echoed out into the room the top of the cake exploded outward. A long pale neck rose up to the ceiling and a sinuous red tongue gripped an envelope. “Happy Birthday Sasuke” said Orochimaru.

Sasuke took the card and opened it.

Dear Sasuke,

I wish you a happy birthday. My present is in the cake, it is the sword of Kusanagi, I hope you like it. My birthday is in a few months; I will be inviting you to my party. I only have a few things on my list, immortality, omnipotence, or your body. Any of those three things will do nicely.
