as far as I know yes it goes so long as you were on during its time period to start it goes up though I could be wrong so dont quote me

Yes, it goes up even you're offline .. base on what happened on my 2nd main account, just logged in to release the lantern, asked online peoples to support me once then offline .. I opened it again at night and my height is at 5000m+ ..
