Do the summons that follow you around actually do anything or are they just for looks? And can they be unlocked with ingots or just the scroll?

You're right .. Those summons you can see following players doesn't do anything but to follow the owner anywhere they go .. It can be only obtained thru using Contracting Scrolls that can be obtained thru Events or Cross-Server GNW Packs ..
