They give exp to your ninjas.....

As for the original question, because there is no limit to how many you can fight, so if they did give exp, you could get to lv 95 in one day... well... in theory.... probably not realistic due to time restrict but...

I believe they give you ninja exp, or experience for ninjas apart from your main character. (Eg. Naruto, if you're using him in your lineup and is not already at the highest possible level) Your main character only receives exp from events and missions/instances. As far as I know the mobs are pretty useless, as most don't worry about not having enough food for their ninjas to level up anyway.
