I have the gold ones currently with mostly purple attributes, and I am thinking that I should save my tool essence from ultimate training until i get better tools, but I don't know if the red tools besides the gourd are obtainable yet. You COULD spend a littl essence into Red Gourd when you finally get it. Other than that, save your essenses for the Kage TI.

As far as i know secondary stats of kage ti hard mode tools are comparable or better than essence version, so no point in waiting.
