On the skill, it's said the puppet has extra guarding when placing at the front but i don't see any difference and the puppet gets broken so easily

The skill refers to the puppet's ability to Taunt opponents when in the front row - meaning it will be targeted before other units in your team (except in special cases such as attacks that avoid this). It will not however be tankier in any way.
