Yep, someone had to do this, what's up with the sudden change to 3 fields in, what seems to be the final fight?

Wait, can you explain what was changed? Are you saying that they changed how many points each field is worth towards winning?
The number of fields was reduced from 6 to 3. In our case, we only had battlefields 10, 7, and 8.

When participants are fewer, the number of battlefields will also be adjusted and less battlefields will open (this process depends on the number of participants of the last 3 weeks).

That's because they don't. If Tencent gives them something in patch, and forgets to mention they did, Oasis doesn't know that such a change was made, unless it comes up during testing.
What you talking about? It's always been 1k flat for winner.
There are 2 groups during a specific round, and on smaller servers its usually high discrepancy in power between them, nonetheless both groups could get 1k coins if communicated properly. I honestly doubt that if you could collect all active players from unmerged server into 1 group, you'd get required 27 players. That's why I'm asking if old coin system stays the same- if yes, then 1k coins for both sides is no longer an option, another discentive towards players.
Let's face it, this change was made for small or dead servers with population issues.
Just like Zathroth above mentioned, alot of players are farming group coins by cooperating and avoiding fights in GNW. The weaker group is resigned to losing GNW but they can still get their group coins by winning their field. In other words, dominant group takes fields on the top row and the weak group can take the fields on the bottom row.
What I don't get is why doesn't Oasis just fix the server population issue instead of fixing this player behavior. After this change, there's no difference as dominant group will just take 10 and 8 while weak group takes 7. Just a slap in the players face again sigh..

Although this change it benefitial to my group, it is the final nail in the coffien of the weaker of the 2-3 groups participating in GNW.
Before, since we do not have many active players we had to gamble on where would the strong members of the opposing group would be. If we were unlucky and since the opposing group had more members, they oculd beat us since we could only fully secure 1 - 2 battlefields and add a wild card battlefield that could loose as well as some very weak member in a couple of the others. Now we can secure 2 battlefields and abandon the last essentially winning every time.
In other words, before having a larger number of members, even if they were not in the top 10, could win you GNW if the opposing group had few players. Now the group that has the most top 5 players in their ranks will win the war every time.
I dont know if this change is good or bad, even on low populated servers like UK407 who really need a merge

This is the case for my group, we have been winning wars with numbers and strategy against all the top players who all joined the same group. 5 or so ppl really spent money I'm talking thousands and they all ended up in the same group but lose 90% of the time. With the new war they can now focus 2/3 fields and possibly win every war since its hard fighting 10-20k higher power than our strongest people.
