Once you reach lv 20, they can't be levelled anymore, and you'll get 1 last mission from them, after that, they just sit there, you can talk to them, but it won't help you

would be nice if lvl 20 ninja gave you a random gift to give other ninja when you talk to them.

The advantage to maxing out a ninja bond is the added stats that specific ninja gets. Whatever it says in his bio, Hanzo and Edo Hanzo will get. It's a neat system to give your favorite teams a little more pow.
