They'll be much easier to obtain in the future (be it advanced threads or refines) as you'll be able to purchase them via silver coins which are obtained through dailies/TI/Survival Trial but who knows when that version update will hit the global servers. We're a little under a year behind CN's version but thankfully a lot of the gameplay issues that our players are currently bringing up has already been dealt with in their version due to similar complaints from their own playerbase.

edit: we should be getting advanced threads in hard SA soon (probably with the 3.0 update).

Shops undergo a big rehaul in 4.0 where you have two major currencies:

Gold: Obtained from Jinchuuriki rescue, Cat Quiz, Sage World, and Matsuri. Currency for Magatamas, Seal Scroll frags, and Advanced Refines.

Silver: Obtained from TI, Arena dailies, daily quests, SA, Ranked Battle, etc. Currency for advanced/medium/common threads & cloth, cave keys, medium/low refines, purification & purification protection runes, etc
