1# Go To
"Cat Quiz"
Event will officially start at 8:20PM all registered players are required to enter the Q&A field before 8:20

Nine tails starts exactly at the same time as cat quiz, therefore making it impossible to obtain the top 3 dps spots unless you skip cat quiz.

Does anyone else see a major flaw with the timing of this event here? This definitely has to be changed.

This is hands down one of the most idiotic decisions they've made so far. Change the Cat Quiz to 8:00 - 8:20 so people can do both events.

Its already been brought up in a few posts within the new events thread and Daisuke already knows about it.

They will be bringing it up to the developers to see if the devs can work something out with the timing.

I don't know if they will change something...
We know that from the 2.0 update:

It may be a flaw as what you may have pointed out, but I'd prefer to think that this makes it a little more interesting - if the cat quiz rewards are better for you, you would skip ninetails (in other words, the top damage dealers that choose to start on ninetails would have a greater % of the fight and therefore get more coins/xp). The invisible hand of economics would lead to an equilibrium whereby the players themselves would decide at what participation level for both events would be considered "equal" in terms of rewards. For those skipping the cat quiz, they get extra xp/coins from what they are used to (see above), and for those who actually chose the cat quiz event, they probably chose it because they felt the rewards were better than what they could have otherwise gotten from fox.

In other words, I think that its interesting that players have to choose what they want to do in the game at that timing (adds a fresh aspect to the boring grind of repetitive daily events) but I guess this opinion may not be shared by the majority of players and I respect that :). Maybe they will change it eventually, who knows.

The problem is people like me who are constantly on the top dps of ninetails, why am i forced to leave ninetails and potentially lose my 1st spot iif the 2nd decides to skip cat quiz. I want to participate in this new event just as much as any other player does, but forcing people to choose one over the other is not a very bright idea in my opinion.

Iis it really necessary to make a tight timeframe that conflicts both events when there is so much dead time during the day or even right after ninetails?

Actually, that's not true. Fox is self adjusting, which means if less people do it, it nerfs itself. So while the fox-goers will get more % of the total "pot" each, they would be getting roughly the same amount.

Hmm is that true? I'm not sure about that because after server merge for my server (which was around Jan) I always received 1/4 of what I was used to because there were 4x the number of players and proportionate amount of high dps'ers from each server merged. Ninetails by itself, from what I have observed, didn't get stronger or weaker immediately - it did seem to level up faster though - but the amount of coins/xp I ended up getting were the same over time since players were also powering up proportionally. But I could be wrong here, feel free to let me know!

I believe it buffs itself if it dies under 4 min and nerfs itself if it takes more than 10 min, so there is some leeway in there. But at least for my non-merged server, I have seen it self adjust a number of times after a quick/slow finish. In fact, just last week it went from 45m(or is it 450? I only care for the first 2 digits XD) to 68m to 48m. It had been 45m for about a month, 68m for two or three runs after a surprisingly fast finish and then dropped after a slow finish where 2-3 of the ptws who are usually in top 3-5 didn't show along with some others.

Do note, however, there is a different modifier based on ranking as well, I believe 1st place is 150% versus 16+ which is 100%, so you could lose up to 1/3 of your reward even if you dealt the exact same damage from that. And given the leeway in the time, 10 min to 4 min would be a loss of 60%. and 40%*2/3 is about 1/4 (4/15). So indeed, under the worst possible cir*stances, you could drop to 1/4 income even if your damage stays the same.

So I guess technically speaking, yes, you can gain more, but that's only so if your server fox damage is surprisingly stable and happens to go from 4 min to say 8 min so that the readjustment is not triggered from the loss of people. If it does trigger, then the gain is gone and it might be difficult to get it back.
But then again, being once per week, it would be "normal" on Thursdays but causes the Firday fox to be weak, and potentially be back up to normal for Sunday after a fast Friday, so the amount of loss/gain would be rather complicated.
But if your server was finishing in say 6 min regularly, it gets nerfed due to running over 10 min on the quiz day but not by much such that "other" days end up being say 4 min 30s so it doesn't get buffed back up... well, in that case EVERYONE loses out. This is the worst case scenario.

Fox buff itself if it dies before 8:25; nerf itself if it dies after 8:30.

Having overlapping cat and fox is a serious issue for all active players of the time period. If top players go to quiz instead of fox; it most likely won't die before 8:30; which result in a big hp and reward drop on Friday, for everyone who attend fox.

This means top players are forced to lose significant rewards regardless of what choice they take; when compared to not having overlapping event times. And if top players chose to take the quiz, everyone else also lose out on rewards.

Currently, optimal fox exp/coin gain would be to have him die in 8 - 9 minutes. If even one top player go to the quiz instead, it will go past 10 mins for a big nerf next day, where you will only get ~60% of the rewards you'd otherwise get.

That's certainly a "solution"
At this point, i care little for the exp or coin, 288% exp and serious diminishing returns on gates.
So the only question is, can the cat give more value than the 40+ coupon and a lv 2 magatama I get in fox every time?

From the mods posts in the "New Events" thread it just seems Oasis doesn't even know what is going to happen. The fox and cat could be happening simultaneously or there could be only the quiz (like Germany) ... we will see today.

This just shows the lack of preparation that goes into events. My personal opinion is that they push us what they receive from China and then expect the players to the bug-testing (a highly paid job in real life).

To be honest i don't get why the cat couldn't be placed during the first 20 minutes of matsuri on friday. That way you don't lose anything since you can do matsuri after the cat.
