LOL, ofc u must fight ;P
cheer option is only when u not in battlefield, i case your group participan is full, and u not join in any battlefield or u just join in new group and cant join gnw coz 7days penalty, u only can do cheers :lol

just join you get group funds and group coins win or lose. Every member counts unless you're group is really full and they don't want you there then you can cheer(only if there are at least 3 field fights i think). Each member can bring in more funds
