For the past few months (since the Kage pack release) players at the higher level have essentially been playing barrier wars with each other. While single character initiative is important for a ninja attacking first, it has become the primary stat for winning a battle due to the massive stat buff you get from having a barrier.
I don't believe anything will change, however, why doesn't an enemy's barrier affect all ninjas in the battle? IE, if both teams are using Mei or Danzo, why can't the enemy ninja perform their passive attacks in their "own" barrier? Why aren't enemy konoha ninjas empowered by Hashirama's barrier? It just seems logical to be that way and sloppy on the game design to make a barrier so one sided. A barrier should be a tactical decision to support your team, not a slaughter initiator.
There are many cases where you can work around someone having a barrier, either by replacing it or sustaining through the damage, however in the current meta it's all too often that your forced to accept defeat over it in the case of "mirror matches" where two people are running the same team.
Just my two cents, I guess this thread can discuss teams that succeed vs barrier control if you want to consider it strategy! haha.
