Here's the thing, when you take a look at the "Merge" topics, you clearly see that a lot of servers are having issues with the events. And those who are able to do the events on a regular basis are often incomplete. Having 4 groups consistently participating in War doesn't mean much if 2 out of the 4 groups are getting destroyed because of the lack of powerful players, or simply because of sheer numbers in the fields. (For instance, we shouldn't see a group auto-win 3 fields because the other group had to give them up in order to fill 3 spots in the 3 other fields)
Originally, if I'm not mistaken, we're supposed to have 8 groups competing in the Finals on saturdays. And, we should expect even more groups to compete in the qualifiers, in order to earn a spot. And I believe that's far from being a reality.
Now, every week servers are openning. As I understand why you'd want to open new servers, for new players to play on and not feel discouraged by the gap in power, the reality is else.
I'm on Server 12, one of the oldest servers, and we still have new players joining, not just alts being created. I did the same 4 months ago. I thought it would be better to play on *ready well populated server, instead of risking playing on an empty server, and finding myself stuck in it.
So, the new servers get new players to join them, but not as much as expected/necessary for it to be viable. Also good to note, the time needed in order to get to lvl 80+ is probably wearing people down.
So what I'm wondering is, why not focus on merging servers (old with old / new with new) instead of creating new ones all the time ?
I've applied my server a few weeks ago, still no news about merging, and the amount of active (on a daily basis) players is shrinking by the week.
