Summary: Even if Kyoma has to go with some unwanted company, he will do it to escape. Yes, even if this company is terrifying Kyoma out of his mind.
Note: At first, chapter 3 and 4 were going to be one chapter, but then I realized that it was a bit lengthy. So why not make them 2 chapters? *shrug*
Warning: This chapter starts out with the usual angst, but then suddenly turns comical <:3_60:>
Chapter 3
It’s some stroke of mysterious fortune that the A-rank mission tells me to travel back to the site of death from yesterday. It becomes way too su*ious when the mission itself tells me to intercept a message from Konoha. Coincidence?
Kumogakure has always been on rocky terms with the rest of the villages. The Raikage probably thinks they’re trying to start a war or something. Or maybe it’s the other way around.
I fear the direction my guessing is taking me. It’s causing me to lose faith. Losing faith is something I do not want. Especially when the last of it is crumbling.
I’m climbing down the mountains when I spot a familiar green jacket. This one is also quite shiny.
It’s the Konoha ninja I was instructed to intercept. The ninja is carrying a bag in his hands.
My eyes lock on the target as I jump out from behind a mountain, brandishing my sword.
Before the ninja can even blink, I * the bag out of his hands. The next second, there’s a kunai ready in the spot where I just was.
I take off running, having completed my objective. Of course, the Konoha ninja pursues me, but I hide myself in the mountains and mist surrounding the area.
Once I’m sure I’m safe, I open the bag. There’s quite a huge scroll in there. I’m half expecting it to be a decoy when I read the contents.
Basically, Konoha wants to make peace with Kumo.
What kind of crap is this.
Is this why the rogue Konoha ninjas were trying to meet up with us?
The Raikage would never agree. He’d probably tear up the scroll for all I know.
Something’s off. Really off.
The Konoha ninja I just encountered wasn’t really a Konoha ninja. It was one of those rogue jounins that killed my teammates.
But why?
If I was alive, then what happened to the jonin who were overpowering me?
What about the Konoha vests that were clearly only used for killing my teammates? They looked brand new, untouched save for the blood that later spilled on them.
Ninja vests aren’t that clean.
The Raikage sure didn’t kill them all if one jounin escaped. I’m sure the Raikage wouldn’t let him escape alive.
The Raikage mentioned the rogue ninja like they were still part of Konoha.
I sigh from the brain exhaustion and open up my mission scroll again. None of this makes sense at all.
I scroll over the Raikage’s signature for mission approval and stop.
Wait.
What is this?
No.
It can’t
be.
The Raikage’s handwriting matches the Konoha scroll perfectly.
Everything’s changed.
Nobody but the Raikage would probably have permission to read this do*ent. The Raikage would spread the fake news immediately and get rid of the scroll.
I find myself tearing up the two scrolls and dumping them in a river nearby.
Kumo’s trying to start a war with Konoha. They falsely tried to implicate Konoha with a fake peace request, and now…
Kumogakure killed Hiroto and Yukina to lure Konohagakure in.
I’m not going to let this village drag me down with the impending doom it will cause.
I pick up the sharpest rock lying around me, taking off my Kumo forehead protector.
Scratching out Kumo’s symbol, I tear off the cloth and drift it down the river. I smash the metal plate against the mountain, letting it shatter to pieces.
Silently cursing the mountains, the land, the people everywhere.
“URGH!” I scream, kicking at one of the mountains.
It’s then that I spot a man standing in the clearing. “Hey kid, you… okay?”
I slowly look up at a rugged-looking man. He’s toting a fishing net (with quite a good amount of fish), and wearing a small white rope tied around his head. There are scars on his arms and chin that don’t seem to come from fishing.
Despite the intimidating feature, his face is tightened with concern. Concern over a strange boy that just smashed his village’s headband. I feel a painful pang in my chest as the fisherman just stands there, waiting for a reply.
“It’s quite impressive that you got a headband at the age of, um, seven?” The strange man scratches at his chin for a second. “But then, why are you just throwing that away? It’s supposed to be a great achievement.”
“Not anymore,” I mutter darkly. The man raises his eyebrows.
“Hoo boy…” he sighs. “I guess you’re abandoning your village then.”
“You don’t look like you belong in Kumo,” I snitch, pointing a finger accusingly at the fisherman.
He chuckles. “Why, I’m just here for trading fish. I move around all the time. I’m currently headed to the Land of Iron, and I plan to stop at the Land of Waves later.”
“Hmph.” I scrutinize the fisherman su*iously. “What’s your name?”
The man looks surprised. “Hey, I can’t tell you that. It’s classified.” But then he puts on this grin. “Well, if you choose to adventure with me, then I’ll tell you. It’s not safe for a little guy like you to go out on his own.”
I abruptly scoot a few feet away from the man. I’m pretty sure my face conveys the way I interpreted his words, because the man sputters at my look.
“Okay, okay, my name’s Kaiza!”
I stare at the man for a long moment.
Kaiza puts a hand to his forehead. “Yes, I’m telling the truth. But I’m also quite concerned about you. I just can’t leave a boy of your age out here.”
I’ve never been more concerned about my own wellbeing in my entire life.
Kaiza seems like he’s close to sobbing. “Oh god, I’m NOT a *!” he wails.
“You’re lyiiiiiiiiiing!” I wail back.
“Please believe me!”
“NO!”
“Please!”
“NO!”
“Why?!” At this moment, and yes I tell you, this moment, Kaiza just started sprouting tears.
God, why is this grown man crying?
I look up in despair at the heavens. Why.
I bury my face in my hands, unsure about the words I say next. I take a deep breath.
“Fine, I’ll go with you.”
Kaiza’s tears disappear instantly like some sort of miracle.
“But if you even try to do anything su*ious…” I unsheathe my katana slightly. “Don’t you dare underestimate me with my precious katana.”
Oh look, Kaiza’s still grinning as he nods that yes, he won’t do su*ious things.
“So, are you ready to head away? Cause I have a feeling you don’t want to stay here any longer,” Kaiza quips.
I look at the metal fragments of my headband. And then I kick them away.
*tering the remains in the river, I follow Kaiza out of the Land of Lightning.
I don't return to Kumogakure for a long time.
