Protip: Unless you're Fire or Wind main, you're usually not going to go before Midnight Blade. Your combos will be disabled. There are exceptions like Gai and Neji that have higher speed potential so long as you are not neglecting their refining stats.
However, they don't need to stay disabled.
Fire main has Death Mirage which cleans two debuffs per turn. Water main has both a jutsu and a standard attack that remove debuffs, either single target or on the whole team. Wind main has a jutsu that both cancels all debuffs on the team and resets your mystery cooldowns. Even Lightning main has the Root of Warrior which makes swordsmen immune to debuffs for the first 2 turns of combat. Shizune and Kabuto and Karin all clean up debuffs as well. Sakura purges all debuffs with her Jutsu and Kurenai reflects them back on the enemy. Once the shop update hits, Gakido and Blade Kakashi will be purchasable with tokens. Kakashi also reflects debuffs while Gakido makes your team effectively immune to debuffs by getting rid of an entire layer twice per turn on your whole team. Earth main does not have a way to cleanse but it's tanky enough to survive the turn and puts up shields for allies, plus Lightning counters Earth.
So if your team absolutely depends on combos there are definitely ways of having them usable. You're also granted access to them turn 1 because Midnight Blade cannot use his mystery until turn 2. You have an entire turn to either stop him from casting the mystery (Acupuncture/Immobile/Chaos/Sleep) or you can deal your combo damage turn 1 and play defense turn 2. You did remember to shutdown some enemies so he can't combo either, right?
That said, your team shouldn't depend solely on combos. It's extremely easy for me as an experienced player to memorize every character's chases and identify which character on your team is the critical element of your combo. Perhaps too I've fought the team before. Anything from Immobile to Chaos to Paralysis to Sleep can stop you from being able to combo with that character, assuming I didn't just murder him instantly. If you don't have ways to deal with debuffs then your combo team is already at a disadvantage.
As for teams that absolutely annihilate Midnight Blade, pretty much anything with wind. Gaara, Naruto, Wind main, and Kurenai is a deadly team that is difficult to deal with. Hinata, Naruto, Kakashi, Wind Main is an offensive team that can one-hit KO your main before you even get to use your combo-disabling jutsu because Wind is faster than Lightning and Giant Rasengan tends to annihilate your team even without a followup combo. Fire mains are also faster and deadly, able to control critical teammates or just go for the turn 1 silence/burn them to death strategy. Earth mains have to rely on team support but again they are countered by Lightning so it's an uphill battle. Water mains rely on their Acupuncture causing whips and combos, auto debuff cleansing heals and healers, and play the slow reactive game. I've even seen them go from full team paralyze to no one paralyzed just by waiting out the autoheals THEN using the shark jutsu to start their combo.
I could go on but to summarize.... Midnight can't hurt you turn 1 if he's using the Chidori jutsu. You have a turn to pull off your combos and controls, you almost KNOW what jutsu he's going to use turn 2, and your team can still deal damage without a combo. You should be used to your combos being disabled in the first place from other types of control and have a plan to correct it if you depend on combos. Which I repeat -- you should not. Always have a backup plan. Combos are like Jutsu, they're nice to have but expect them to get shutdown sometimes.
Strats to use:
Wind - AOE murder Rasegan doom
Fire - Status inflicting and Mirror genjutsu
Earth - ................ha
Water - Autocleanse and patience, reactive gameplay
Almost forgot, clones are good too against MB's using Chidori. He won't one-shot them unless your ninja are weak in stats. Most of the Midnight Blades I fight no longer even use Chidori because Lightning Armor is a much better skill for PVP.
