I would recommend the ability to chat while you are matching in arena, it is not so great to have to wait 2-5min watching a screen and not being able to match or read chat messages or even private message someone.

press ESC while signed up for arena. That will allow you to play your character as normal.

aye, try to avoid getting into any kind of combat while signed up for arena. if you get signed up while in a combat, you will lose your spot in the queue.
