Rank:

1. Academy (ninja attribute +0%)
2. Genin (+1%)
3. Chunin (+2%)
4. Jonin (+3%)
5. Anbu (+4%)
6. Sannin/Kage (+5%, it's like add 1 star to your ninja, so no need to developing 6 stars ninja)

How:
Speak to NPC Tsunade, she will give you some mission/quest to your ninja.
1 slot/team require 4 ninjas

lv40, 1 slot open
lv55, 2 slot open
lv70, 3 slot open
Register your ninja

Missions:
Duration are varies (10-20 hours just like the task in wishing tree). After finish, all ninja in team will gain 'rank experience'. Academy to Genin need 3x completing the mission. Genin to Chunin 6x mission.
Example Genin mission = find lose cat (10 hours), Anbu mission = track Akatsuki/Kabuto hidden base (20 hours).

You can see your rank of your ninja next to ninja's element (sama as you see ninja's star)

It can be a good feature!
edit: u can't use your ninja for a while, maybe the duration of 'school' 6-12 hours, u need to teamup with your second or 3rd team then. np u have alot of ninja at lv70 & be smart more to manage team.
academy->genin (3 missions, total 3x)
genin->chunin (6 missions, total 9x)
chunin->jonin (9 missions, total 18x)
jonin->anbu (12 missions, total 30x)
anbu->kage (15 missions, total 45x)
