Had some questions about this so I wanted to try explaining every detail about it

So first of all there are 2 kinds of potions and protections

The "weaker" and easier to obtain ninjas usually use the cheaper (green) potions and protections, while rare ninjas use advanced (blue) ones

It works the same as purify when you lock more skills it takes more protections

And the most common question I get is if there is some kind of set number to get orange skills and the answer is that it's exactly same as purify where you could use 1 potions or 100 potions to get an orange depending on your luck really

Of course getting orange skills (max breakthrough) has the lowest chances

About how to breakthrough a ninja here is what I would recommend:

- Never lock a skill that's not max breakthrough (orange color)

- Destroy orange colors if you get it on a skill that's not a priority (for example chases or standard attacks in most cases) because you would waste a lot of protections after that

- Always aim to get the best or 2nd best breakthrough before you start locking (so for example when you breakthrough Grudge Kakuzu don't start locking unless you get his scaling passive +2 or his 2x standard attack passive)

For the end I want to remind you about switching between + and Y skills

You are free to change between same colors and nothing will be destroyed, but if you go to a weaker color you won't be able to go back to the higher one
