Just putting it out there, this probably happened as a result of your local time not being the same as the server time.
The events are "unlocked" by your local time, but they don't start counting until, I believe, the server time reaches midnight. This is just my theory, supported by the screenshots that I've seen posted. So I could be wrong.

But if I'm correct, that's the root of the cause, and to all other player, don't jump the gun, wait it out, it's not going anywhere.
