Summary: A continuing story of the 5 Naruto Online Mains in a slightly different universe than the actual Naruto. This is the last chapter of Forest of Death.
***The settings have been slightly shifted from the Naruto universe to match the story. They'll be explained as the story progresses, but don't be surprised if you suddenly find someone that was alive dead, or someone dead alive. =D

Note: I'm using character titles for the names temporarily (Midnight Azure Scarlet Breeze Crimson), but definitely willing to decide on an actual name. Comment below if you've got any name suggestions!

Note 2: Rated it as T because I plan on writing some material that should definitely be rated like that. However, not all of them are necessarily T.

Forest of Death (12): First and Last

Scarlet faced his team as they came inside the tower, which seemed like a basketball court, except made of rocks. “Ok, well…I guess we can open the scrolls now?”

Crimson widened his eyes as he looked at Scarlet, pointing at Azure with his thumb. “Scarlet, she’s already been opening it since we came through the door.”

Azure flung the scrolls open as they made a seal on the ground. Soon, the seal summoned something in front of them with a puff of smoke - as the smoke cleared, they could see Shikamaru. Breeze and her team also walked in behind them to see the summoning as they walked up closer.

Shikamaru stared at them, then down at his watch. “…3 and a half hours, first and last teams to make it here. Congratulations, the six of you.”

Crimson looked down, his expression a little saddened. “Nobody else made it, huh…”

Shikamaru looked over to Breeze, still holding both scrolls. “You can give me those now. Since you guys are here at the same time, I might as well take them.” Breeze handed her scrolls as Shikamaru stuffed it in his pocket, sighing.

“It’s always a drag every year, they might as well just do the finals…” Shikamaru looked over the 6 Genins, seemingly unhurt except Midnight. As soon as he raised his hand and snapped his fingers, the medic team rushed in from a nearby door, taking Midnight away outside to the hospital. “…Both teams qualify for finals since all team members met the criteria and are alive. Finals are in 4 weeks, so get plenty of rest.” Shikamaru yawned but soon realized the 5 Genins were still staring at him, wondering if anything else would happen.

“…Normally, I’d tell you guys to sit around and wait until all the other passing teams have arrived to congratulate, but...” Shikamaru paused for a second, looking outside. “There isn’t any left to pass. Dismissed.” Shikamaru disappeared on that note, and Sai immediately headed outside as he drew a falcon-like bird on his scroll. The drawing soon came to life as Sai hopped on, flying away.

Forest of Death (Fin): Heading Home

Breeze, Crimson, Scarlet and Azure started walking back, chatting about how much trouble they had, none too worried about the finals. They all knew they’d have to fight each other, but rules have changed over the years, and instead of the winner moving up a rank, the examiners and the Hokage observed their qualities as a ninja and decided if they deserved the rank - for all they knew, some winners could stay Genin while some losers could move up to Chunin.

“…Oh yeah, Shikamaru lost his finals too.” Azure and Crimson turned their heads towards Breeze who just spoke, while Scarlet was lost in his own thought over something. Azure asked in surprise. “Eh? Really?? I thought he woulda won easily…”

“Apparently, he gave up the match when he could’ve won. And that’s the year when they decided losers can move up a rank…that’s what my brother told me.”

Crimson scratched his head, remembering Lee telling him about his Chunin exams a long time ago. “That’s the crazy year, right? Kazekage and Hokage’s sons were there, with geniuses from Hyuga and Uchiha…gee, I don’t even know if I’ll last a minute fighting them.”

“You don’t even last a minute fighting Lee though.” Azure laughed as she said it while Breeze smiled slightly, trying not to laugh. Crimson stuttered as he tried to deny it. ‘Wha - that’s a long time ago! I can beat him now, I swear!”

“Reeeaaally?” Azure made an evil smile as she asked, knowing the answer. Crimson looked away, realizing he made a mistake. “Well…uh…”

Breeze tapped on Crimson’s shoulders, still smiling. “I believe you.” Crimson laughed nervously; Breeze had never seen how badly he got beaten by Lee last time, although Azure was there to witness the event. Crimson tried to sound as genuine as he could. “Thanks, Breeze.”

As they exited the forest, Breeze parted ways, heading to the Hokage office to see her father. Azure and Crimson waved at Breeze as she left, then turned towards Scarlet who was still looking down at the ground, disconnected from reality. Azure waved her hands in front of his eyes. “Hello~~~?”

No response came from Scarlet. Breeze formed a hand sign, and Crimson stepped away a little, knowing what was about to happen. Azure blew a bucket of cold water over him as Scarlet yelped in surprise, finally regaining his senses. “Whoa, what was that for?!”

Crimson crossed his arms, shaking his head sideways as Azure pointed at Scarlet, speaking in an annoyed tone. “You didn’t say goodbye to Breeze! What are you even doing? Daydreaming?”

Scarlet belatedly looked around to see they were already out of the forest, Breeze nowhere to be seen. “…Oh. Nothing, I just…” Scarlet paused before he continued. “…It’s nothing. I’ll tell you guys later.”

With that, he took off on his own, heading back towards the village. Azure and Crimson exchanged curious glances as Azure shrugged, wondering if they did something wrong.
