Gaara is fine replacement for Sai if you don't have him yet. You only get 5-6 hit combos and Kakashi doesn't usually trigger his ignite but you can still survive an extremely long time because of Gaara, who is basically invincible and can throw down crazy AOE damage. Plus since he's wind and uses ninjutsu he ignores Hinata's rotation defense (a common tank in arena), wind damage in general is great against the problem Lightning dudes that have amazing damage or multi-attacks (Lee, Gai, Sasuke, Kakashi), and his self-restoring shield can at times be better than clones (especially against AOE teams). He's also immune to combos!

But to get the most out of the team they have to be setup exactly like this. The only change to talents is use Lightning Sword. Alternatively you can move Midnight Blade to be in front of Kakashi as that won't change the combo order but will give Kakashi a protector.
