My thoughts:
3 star Kankuro is great. Turn 1 combo start, lots of damage and DoT. His puppet is a bit squishy so take care if you plan to use him as a combo starter.

In general, Kankuro can be useful as a combo starter, but as mentioned above the puppet is fairly fragile. In addition, I feel like he gets a lot of his utility and usefulness from relying on the puppet, which makes him a bit harder to use.
Kankuro 2* is often pretty bad in matches where your team is controlled by the AI (in ranked battle et cetera) because from what I can tell he has a pretty low initiative. This leaves him vulnerable and weak, so he can be really useless if you put him on your ranked battle team.
3* Kankuro fixes that problem by spawning the puppet at the beginning of the turn. He does decent damage from my experience. But the puppet-respawning seems a little expensive for my tastes to be honest - is it really worth 40 chakra to summon a kinda fragile blocker? (even though it'll heavily boost your attack and guarantee a combo)
But he's pretty solid all in all during early-to-midgame, from my personal experience. Late game (and more daily logins) allowed me to obtain other comboers like 3* Naruto, GNW Kankuro and Kiba, and more, and he is somewhat overshadowed by these guys in my opinion. I used him for a while, but replaced him with GNW Kiba. (because GNW Kiba's Akamaru is pretty tanky, which makes up for Kankuro's biggest weakness)

GNW Kankuro is a straight upgrade. He adds Ignition to his Mystery, Poison to his chase, and instead of poison; his puppet attack causes ignition. Also his puppet attack is based on Nin damage instead of taijutsu.
He's just all around better. -

I see, he really is better than the normal one.
But in my case, he's just stuck to 2 Stars. I missed a few days to play so i cant make him 3 Stars.
Do i * to my Normal Kankuro ? -

Kankuro is similar to naruto at 3 star. his puppet is added Damage. it is not a damage taker at all. Without his puppet he is actually quite bad. It should be protected. I use Kankuro with Earth Main, Hinata, and Tsunade using ninja dog summon. Kankuro, Main, and Hinata all in front with Tsunade in back. The puppet spawns behind Kankuro. It is a good team with quite a few ways to start combos with great CC ability through Hinata's acupuncture chase.

kankuro is best for fighting AIs. ninja exam, survival, ranks, he's fine there. just protect his puppet and (with gnw kankuro especially cos he's a beast) you'll deal great dmg. if you're wind, keep at least one kankuro upped at all times, like naruto/asuma/baki/oro/gaara if u got him he's just a good wind to have.
but sadly pvp ppl know destroy his puppet and he's just not effective. what's he gonna do, throw his little poison shuriken at u? shield of his puppet just ain't that great, tho gnw kankuro's is a lot better (and if ur wind it will be better than ur or naruto's clones ... still nothing compared to say akamaru as above mentioned. but u want to protect the puppet, not use it as a shield unless ur down to the wire and he's the only one left standing.)
i like to hide him and his puppet behind hinata. they work pretty well together -
