Why does it have to be Discord? My storage is already full. NBO has its own forum and blog, so why bother redirecting everything to Discord? I don't even have a Discord account. Please consider my request

It's how the team has developed. If you really want a ninja, a Discord account is free to make. As per many of the announcements here, it boils down to speed and team presence being higher on Discord.
