I used to use 2 Ropes and 2 Guards but I switched to 3 Ropes and 1 Guard now.

That's fair.

The pos 2 control ninja teams are pretty common but not every team has that same dynamic. My reasoning with putting the gourd on main is that often the main is the support, the glue that holds the whole team together, so they benefit from the defensive nature of the gourd and the possibility to not get controlled. The gourd gives + defense, resistance, and control which is useful on a support - even if the main can just stay on the field a little longer, it can help. But I think if you run a control team it makes sense to put the gourd on your pos 2.

I guess the overall point is that you probably want to put it on a support ninja not a pos 1 ninja.
