Hello everyone,,

After reluctantly watching Boruto to catch up hoping it would get better i found the only times it was interesting was when Naruto characters popped up to fight or show off their powers. Everyone loves to see Naruto and Kurama fighting together again as well as Sasuke being awesome. Maybe it's just me but i feel if i'm enjoying Boruto when even Sakura is fighting there is something wrong at least for me.

The big reason I and probably many other people dislike Boruto is because it is riding off the success of Naruto. What do i mean by that? Not in the way that "Hey this is a sequel to NARUTO!!! come watch now", i mean that most of us have already gone through the journey of Naruto - Shippuden and experienced the progression of all the characters.

YES Boruto is a better ninja than his father at his age, it's cool to see him actually know jutsu's and be able to fight, HOWEVER the problem here is that Boruto is always the big winner because plot armour. I'm not going to say Naruto wasn't helped with plot armour because EVERY main character is but the difference between Naruto and Boruto is that Naruto had the nine tails power helping him throughout the anime. Whether it's * to you or not when Naruto was in a difficult fight the nine tails power slipped out to power Naruto up for the fight, he had an explanation for his power in a fight. Boruto is just main character strong, the whole "Oh no you're kicking the * out of me but ha-hey i'm the main character and here's an attack to beat you in one hit".

There's no explanation in Boruto for power scaling, in Naruto we were slowly introduced to it's power scaling in it's characters-

Kakashi the copy ninja, a highlighted Jonin because of his strength and experience, Naruto and the others cannot stand up to him even while he's reading a book with one eye covered. When Kakashi is having a hard time in a fight we understand how strong the enemy is and when Naruto/Sasuke or whoever does something to hurt them or even defeat them it gives us the wow factor, the hype and chills we get when the characters do something amazing .

Orochimaru, always holding back his power so he can *yse strength and ability, kicked out of the hidden leaf for his experiments and general evil ways. When we see Sasuke defeat Orochimaru we really get an understanding of his strength and how far he progressed

The Kage's, in general the Kage's are the strongest people and are the last line of defence to defend their village or land, standing up to a Kage is deemed impressive and overcoming them is almost unheard of. Being known as stronger than a Kage is an extreme honour.

When we take this into account and compare it to Boruto we can quickly see how random the power levels are. Boruto is the strongest but suddenly X character comes in and he's no match for them. Mitsuki is my main issue, he is in terms of Boruto's power level, extremely strong and doesn't seem to have trouble standing up to enemies in the anime however his power level is awkward because while he is assumed to be leagues above Boruto and the others we can assume he is a mere insect compared to the strength of side characters from Naruto, shown when Shino was taken over and Naruto explained that if he had been using his full strength they wouldn't stand a chance

When a character in Naruto progressed in strength we generally had a reason behind it. Naruto training with Kakashi and Jiraiya, using his clones to train, connecting with Kurama ect ect.

Sasuke is an Uchiha and was at the start shown to be a naturally gifted character, while Sasuke's power was sometimes questionable we still had a general timeline of when where and how he got stronger. Training with Kakashi for his chidori, getting the curse, training with Orochimaru and over time "levelling up" his sharingan. Sasuke was slightly bs in terms of strength, always being stronger than Naruto until they became equals but that was established at the beginning and was the general rule.

I'm gonna ignore Sakura, she trained with the Hokage or as Naruto and Sasuke did, trained with a Sanin but her power levels rose when the plot required it and while spending 99% of the time being useless, that 1% is just to be part of the team.

When we take all this into account, the training, battles and experience everyone went through to get to where they are we are left with a big issue. Boruto is by no means a "bad" anime, that is NOT what this post is for, i do enjoy Boruto enough to watch it but the reason for this post is to explain why I and probably many other cannot like it as much and why I can't see it being as popular as Naruto.

And that reason is, we are always wanting more in terms of fights and power. When we set a story already told with greater characters we are left wanting what we had. To make a sequel we need our own rules and reasons. The same issues would arise if Dragon Ball made a series about Goku Jr and friends. We have the same things from DB - DBS just less interesting because yes it's new characters and a new story but it's still the same thing with weaker and less interesting characters.

I understand why Boruto was created, not only because fans wanted something like it but because Naruto was and is extremely popular but in my opinion after the first few episodes where i went "Oh cool that character is his or her son or daughter, neat". It just becomes an attempt to be as good as Naruto without any of the same power scaling, story and progression and THAT is why i feel Boruto is a much weaker anime than Naruto and why it will never be as popular.

I personally would have loved to see a prequel of Naruto to see our already established characters as kids, not as filler but as a real story..
