It's Hashirama's weakness to leave Madara alive to begin with, when Tobirama slain his brother.
If Madara was dead then, 4th Great Ninja War would never happen.
Hashirama admitted it was his fault that his problems led to Tsunade's generation and next.

Not only is it obviously clear how the isolation and discrimination against the Uchiha clan lead to the fear and anger directed at them, which caused the hostile and unfair environment that lead to the planned coup, but It is stated in the anime and Manga that Senju Tobirama's actions placed the village on that path.
Had he placed his prejudice aside, and actually welcome the Uchiha into the society they helped create, that massacre most likely wouldn't have happened.
