I have beat him with my standard Plot Team, Temari (2*), Gaara (3*). Naruto (2*), Wind Character. But I've got arround 4k at that point.

Hey i've beat that stage with Hinata (2 ★), Sasuke (2 ★), Shino (2 ★) and Main (1 ★). And also, never do it in automatic.
