Also what about fights that end before anything even happens? I.e. while in the middle of buffs still being applied? Are you saying the win should automatically go to the team with higher total hp, even though among players of equal power thats rarely a determining factor in who wins the real fight?

It's fine the way it is. Getting one more win or not will not drastically change the results of most sages.
