Favorite characters huh, well if I had to pick a top three...

1. Rock Lee

Reason:
To be honest, the moment I saw Rock Lee in the anime for the first time I thought to myself; "This guy looks pretty freaky." Then as the anime progressed and I learned more of his past, his goals, and his ninja way I knew that he would make it in my top 5 list.

Rock Lee is an extremely determined character and gives it his all to prove himself as an equal to those that were born with natural talents. It was actually inspiring how dedicated he was to proving himself. On numerous occasions I felt I could push myself further just seeing this character in an anime I grew to enjoy. Now I am not a manga person, so I can't give my opinion on things that the anime may not have included from the manga, but I feel that Rock Lee deserves a top 3 spotlight in which case he is my number one favorite character.

I'd like to note, that Rock Lee shined the brightest in his match against Gaara, who knew that this guy could do that crazy stuff, right? Respect for Rock Lee, my number 1 favorite forever.

2. Neji Hyuga

Reason:
My first impressions of Neji Hyuga when I first saw him in the anime were something along the lines of... "Kind of a stuck up *." to put it lightly. It was then when I saw his match with Hinata Hyuga, I began to hate him. (Who knew he'd make it to my top 5, right? Even my top 3..)

It explained everything though in his match against Naruto Uzumaki and I then realized that this guy was suffering a lot because of his past. To be honest, I probably would have made the same choices he has if I were in his shoes. As the anime progressed and I got to see some side-quests involving him(or rather fillers.) He was a really loyal person, one thing you don't see much now days, but seeing what happens much, much, much later on was one of the biggest upsets for me.

All I can say in regards to that is "Because you called me a genius." and this brings me to the conclusion of why he made my second favorite.

3. Kakashi Hatake

Reason:
So...first impression when I saw him for the first time. Looked like a wicked cool person, not going to lie. Everything about him seemed mysterious and let's face it; for the longest time I wanted to see his blasted face. Who hasn't?!

Although this man seemed to have a lazy and carefree attitude... He was one person I respected a lot for the fact he will throw himself into the fray to protect the people he cares about(although, let's be honest...a lot of the Konoha ninja would do this).

Learning about Kakashi Hatake's past, slowly throughout the series, was....to me, slightly disturbing. However, seeing how he developed as a person was rather notable. The man was rather intelligent and skillful. He also retains a well known reputation as "Kakashi the Copy Ninja". Which I thought was a pretty interesting idea for a character. There is a couple notable moments in the entire series where Kakashi really just.... blew my mind.

Final Notes:
I kind of meant to make this post short, but got a little into it. Tried to remind myself to make it short, but man...I want to try sharing my reason for choosing these three. I think all three of these people deserved their placement in my top 3 favorites.

P.S. Loved the most recent episode about Kakashi.... (grin.....)

I can't really...oh alright.

1. Shikamaru - completely me all over. And in the spirit of RakaMikazuki I'll go a bit long-winded. When we first see him, he's this kinda boring guy who doesn't wanna do anything, always complaining about what a drag things are. But then Ino jumps out to help Sakura and he's right there with her, dragging Choji. We first see his *ytical mind during the Chunin Exams, and then Naruto starts hanging with him more - and his match against Temari completely seals his fate as probably the best "Ninja" out of the Konoha Eleven(all the Leaf kids of the four teams minus Sasuke), considering he's tactical, weighs options, and knows when he can't win. He's aware of his shortcomings, and knows full well he can't Sixty-Four Palm people into submission or go on with tons of stamina like Naruto.

It's awesome that he becomes the first among them to become a Chunin, even though most everyone of the Eleven grew up so much from the Exams in their own way. Even more spectacular is watching Shikamaru progressively learn from every mistake and failing, becoming better and better to a point where he rarely complains something is too hard, or that it'll be a drag, because he has responsibilities and duties and he carries the Will of Fire. The best part is that he eventually becomes one of Kakashi's, then Naruto's, personal advisors. He shines just as bright as all the others, in his own unique way.

2. Hinata - In direct competition with Shikamaru for the spotlight, but sadly, I'm very much a Shikamaru so he's closest to my heart. Hinata, though, also is. Very shy girl, whole heapload of expectations, and her younger sister is stronger than her. Well...okay, that's relative, because she failed to beat down her sister when the time came to it because she was too compassionate, and lost the match. Overall, people have called her a better female protagonist than Sakura in this, but I think they're both good.

What I like the most about Hinata is that she grows...well. Probably the most out of anyone in the Konoha Eleven. She goes from a shy girl who can't do anything to a strong woman who would stand side-by-side with Naruto until she's physically unable to anymore. She's strong, intense, and though she's overshadowed, she's still a Hyuga, and proves it time and time again. She essentially spends the entire series becoming strong enough to make Naruto really notice her, and finally realize that she really REALLY likes him. Plus, they're a wonderful match! I watched the OVA for "The Day Naruto Became Hokage", and she's managing an entire family, plus responsibilities for Naruto and getting him ready. Being not just a warrior, but also a great mother, is something I c*so respect her for. Which brings me to...

3. Naruto Uzumaki. Yes, yes, I know, I know. I also like Gaara, Choji, Lee, and many others. But Naruto is here because not only is he the central character, but we also see him grow so much. Naruto has no real natural talent, no family to pass down techniques to him, and no real respect. So he becomes a prankster. I do like knowing that the Uzumaki bloodline is strong with stamina and fast healing, because that makes the entirety of pre-Shippuden much different. Healing from the stab wound to his hand before they meet Zabuza? Probably much more bloodline than Jinchuriki. Always recovering after a night of good sleep when learning the Rasengan? That went on for YEARS. Being a Jinchuriki just compliments his natural blood talents, which is probably the biggest genius of Minato's sealing. The fact that he had to think of it during one night of fighting a big ginormous ragebeast also proves that.

Despite what anyone says, I think Naruto's just as talented and smart as his dad. He learns the Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu after just several hours of practice with a very good textbook - and later he learns he can apply Transformation to it for an infinite number of purposes, such as turning into a shuriken for Sasuke to throw, or the infamous Harem Jutsu, or even when he impersonates his entire team during the Chunin Exams. To be able to mimic them well enough to fool everyone is a testament that he actually does listen when it comes down to it, and observe. He's persistent, and takes inspiration from simple things, as we see with him learning the Rasengan. And he never wastes anything he's taught or that he observes, such as when he uses Kakashi's bum-poking Taijutsu and imbeds an explosive kunai right at the base of the Monster-Gaara's tail.

While his dad was faster than anyone who ever lived, Naruto is unpredictable. Much like when Kimimaro had to fight Drunken Fist Lee, you really don't know what's coming every time you fight Naruto, because you can only guess at what he's cooking up. He initiated one-half of a complex plan, correctly guessing that Sasuke would figure it out immediately and continue the second-half during the first encounter with Zabuza. He pulled sneaky simple tricks in the Chunin Exams like Transforming straight from Kiba to Akamaru to make Kiba freak out and punch out his own dog, or using a clone to hide the hole from him tunneling to pull off a Shoryuken maneuver on Neji. His genius is that he takes every small thing he learns, everything he sees from his friends, and figures out how he can apply it to make himself stronger.

Most importantly, though, Naruto knows loneliness, knows pain, knows abandonment, knows how hard it is to trust someone or earn trust, and comes out the better for it, and he can see exactly why. He's wise beyond his years for the rough childhood he had, and spreads his lessons to all the lives he touches. He appeals to Hinata, Neji, Kiba, Gaara, Tsunade, and just in pre-Shippuden! He never loses his love for being a prankster, or for being unconventional, but Naruto's not like other ninja. This is a good thing, because people start to follow him all over, his optimism spreading across nations and breaking the vicious cycles of hate and anger. At the true end of it all, though he can't teleport or do crazy seals or anything like that, and still relying on his natural instincts for strategy and using what he knows to its fullest, he takes on gods.

And then after things quiet down, his dream of becoming Hokage is fulfilled, but based on his attitude during the OVA, he's outgrown the need for it. He's earned it, and now it's a formality to have the ceremony. It's like settling in for your day job after going out and racing cars - he has to step back from playing ninja and oversee the entire village, and the fun part is, I think he's finally a person who can do that. As unfortunate as it is that his duties don't always allow for him to be home, he's basically any good dad whose job has long hours, and provides for his family. For a Hokage, the entire village is his family, though, and through all his interactions, I believe he's just as in-touch with each and every villager just as Hiruzen was, just as powerful as Minato was, just as caring for their health as Tsunade and with just as many hardships in his life as Kakashi. He's probably one of the best anime protagonists I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

...and I rambled. XD

Hisoka's one of my top 3 favorite characters in general!!

Okay, my top 3 Naruto characters:
1. Tayuya

A messy haired, foulmouthed tomboy who manages to look pretty without any effort. Her blatant disregard for how others see her and dismissive stance on Jirobo's *ist comments make her stand out among Kishi's boy-crazy female characters. She assumingly chose to give up her freedom in exchange for power, knowing that in order to obtain something one must give up something in return. She also had morals similar to Kakashi as she critisized Shikamaru for sacrificing his friends one after another in an attempt to bring back someone who voluntarily abandoned them. Her character design is simplistic yet original and eye-catching. Her curse mark stage 2 giving her a beautiful, demonic appearance to match what I'm going to talk about next: her abilities. Having in my opinion one of the coolest set of jutsu she controls 3 giant demons with the sound of a flute while being able to summon ghosts from their stitched-shut mouths. When she's not using them as a physical assaulter and shield she can trap her enemies in terrifying illusions through the same means she controls her 3 demons.

2. Kin Tsuchi

Another tomboy who manages to look pretty without trying, I fell in love with Kin when I first saw her and I still think Team Dosu are the coolest looking group in Naruto. From her sporty, camo outfit and long, loosely tied hair to her overconfident and sadistic attitude she's easily the most underrated female character in the series. I think she spoke for most of us Sakura-haters when she scolded the buildboard brow for spending too much time trying to look cute instead of training to be a better ninja. Sadly like Tayuya she didn't get much screentime before being killed off and I'll never understand why Orochimaru used her and Zaku instead of Kabuto's 2 teammates. The absolute shock and fear shown on her corpse's expression not only hurt me but even the 3rd hokage who just got done fighting 2 of the people closest to him.

3. Haku (and Zabuza)

It was hard choosing who my other 2 favorities are among the group of characters I love, but I think Haku takes the spot at number 3. Ah, yes, the pretty boy who many STILL have a hard time acknowledging that he isn't a girl. Along with Zabuza they were the first and best written antagonists in the series. They proved that Naruto wasn't going to just be your everyday shounen (sadly Kishi's story got taken over by his editor but that's a story for a different day) and paved the way for the rest of the story! From his gentle, sweet face to deadly protectiveness and determination to serve his master Haku was amazing to learn about and compelling to watch as he didn't want to kill a couple of other kids. Willing to admit defeat he surrendered himself to Naruto before doing one last act of love and usefulness by being a literal meatshield and saving Zabuza from a fatal * by taking it instead. His backstory all the way to the very end and beyond, Haku was one of the best characters created in my eyes.

Honorable mentions include: Temari, Sai, Sasori, Tsunade, Anko, Dosu, Zaku, Karin, Yamato, Kakashi, and Konan.

Haku: My favorite ninja, and arguably the potentially most powerful ninja in existence.

This child prodigy with a Kekei Genkai that combined Wind and Water jutsu to naturally, almost magically wield Ice Style brought so much death as Zabuza's loyal tool. It's almost insane to imagine how it took the power of Kurama in naruto to match his speed.

Besides his beauty and personality, Haku is one of the best characters, both in design and story, it still *s me away such an amazing character was taken out so early in the series.

Tayuya: Flute playing was beautiful, genjutsu was so useful and nicely done, and beyond all that, her personality... well, it's been said in this thread already, but beyond that, yes, just amazing.

Kabuto: A strange choice, but yes, Kabuto is one of the most devious characters in the series, He is also my favorite, his conniving nature, abilities, and the decisions he makes prove he is so much more evil than most of the villains in the show. His absolute devotion to ruining others, growing stronger and all that deception.

His character baffles me in so many ways, that the only way to explain a lot of his actions are pure evil. Experimentation, psychological damage, and betrayals abound. But beyodn that, I like his design before he becomes... a ... Sage dragon. He both resembles an assassin and a medic, which sums his character up quite well in some ways.

1) Kimimaro. Amazing fighter, amazing kekkei genkai, I just want him to do a fatality with his bones on a nin dear god

2) Shikamaru. People call him a slacker, but I call him one of the most underrated characters ever. All you people who say hidan is one of your favorites, shikamaru bodied Mr. Hidan. Nuff said.

3) Neji. He used to be my favorite when all I cared about was abilities, and not real story. Despite that all, I'm still a big fan of the dude. His death made my eyes sweat.
