you've obviously never seen the cn servers or hell even the na servers, mains become useless and then get reworks done to them, currently on cn fire is worthless before its latest rework water was useless as well, thats why you didn't see people playing them competetively.
water used to be worthless here in 1.0 but it got buffed alot so now its good on the other hand fire got nerfed so its the worst main in na and is worthless compared to the other 4 mains
The point is that you can't actually kick them in oblivion and play with a 4th ninja of your like in their place and if you have problems with a single one you can change it and select a different main, so what is required for main is flexibility, not modification of static skills and the needed flexibility is just now there for them right now, that's the point.
What you say would make sense if once you select a talent you couldn't reset them unless you pay or if you couldn't change main as much as you like.

earth main sin't bad. it just depends on how u use mains. earth main is actually really strong cause he can generate shields which are very useful. but i think the stongest main is wind cause of the troll lineups u can make with wind.
Right now, without a doubt, the strongest main is azure fang. On par power and every ninja available you beat immortal teams with them only if you don't do mistakes.
