When we did GNW before, if you summoned the snake and it died, buffs would reset and you could take the barrier. After the snakes died today in GNW, no buffs reset and no barrier. Is this a change?

Their snake died round 4 without resetting buffs and ours died round 5 without resetting. Do buffs not reset after a certain amount of rounds? I know buffs only last a certain amount of round, but it always seemed like snake was sort of a buff reset.
