GNW Points are irrelevant to its matchmaking. It's only to determine which teams progress to the next round.

As for the matchmaking itself, It's indeed random. Do remember that the randomize numbers are noticeable depending on a number of teams attending GNW.

Without large numbers, the odds of the same teams combating each other is pretty high. Just in terms of mathematics.

Hopefully, that satisfies your curiosity, but I have a feeling that it's not what you wanted to hear.
