Gaara's barrier is not prompt, which means he deploys it when its his turn to move.
If you put him as your move 1 ninja and have higher initiative than your opponent it will be used at the beginning of the round, but Gaara can't attacl the same turn the barrier is used.
I'm not sure if using skill breakthrough you can make his barrier a prompt, which would mean he will use it as other ninjas use their mystery, during the move you prompted it. I know that Itachi's barrier can become prompt via skill brakthrough but i'm not sure gor Gaara.
He was prompt at pre 3.0.
As soon as 3.0 released he got changed to non-prompt.
As for Breakthrough, his barrier cast is still non-prompt, but adds immobile and shields.

Im pretty sure that active barrier skills are all non-prompt.
The second cast is prompt though.
Nope, before 3.0 only Gaara has prompt barrier. I played him all the time.
In Matsuri, I had him in front row and waited for opponent's Hashirama to cast and then i casted it over all the time.
Now 3.0, all barrier becomes non-prompt.
When 3.0 was out, I didn't read which ninjas had changed, I only noticed when I played him a few days after.
Cos I remembered I had to re-do my Ranked Teams and such.
