The list of troublesome errands for Shikamaru Nara seemed to have no end today.
Leaping through the branches of Crow Forest, he ran through the seemingly endless list of duties kindly afforded to him due to his newly-acquired status as a Jonin.
On top of planning for the next Chuunin Exams, he was also tasked by Tsunade to oversee the hiding of the eggs for the Easter Egg hunt. The Leaf Village made sure to rotate rotate this duty among the clans every year. As always, last year was a disaster due to the Hyuuga clan overestimating the ability of civilian children to see through trees, much less scale them.
To lessen his workload, Shikamaru had given the orders to his clansmen to "take it easy" and lower the level of difficulty for the Egg Hunt, ensuring fewer frustrated families and therefore less flak to deal with. Just the thought of beating back mothers demanding they rehide the eggs to make it easier for her poor Kaito made him want to yawn from exhaustion. It wasn't even noon.
Shikamaru approached the designated clearing where the egg hunt was set to begin and leapt down from a spry branch that wobbled under his weight.
He touched down onto the warm dirt path and was immediately greeted by spots of color.
Eggs sprawled the trail, spread out like one would distribute seed to birds at the park. He glanced around and found more all along the path like a trail of crumbs. A further cursory glance confirmed that the Nara clan had interpreted his instructions to a level of extreme that even he wouldn't have thought logical.
Shikamaru tilted his head back to the sky and closed his eyes to let out a groan. "How troublesome."
When he said "easy" he meant 'easier for children' not 'easier for the blind'.
He looked down to glance at his watch and groaned again, louder and more guttural.
The Egg Hunt was going to start in an hour.
