I found the only way to do this is when you're fighting a group that you may struggle against is to do one of the following 2 things: 1-remove everyone from the whitelist just for that fight. 2-wait until there is about 1:30 to 1 minute left before it starts to set your fields (you can set your teams up but just leave them all in the weakest fields). Both work as I've used both strats when I thought spying was going on. I'm going to have to do it this saturday because we had a server merger and the team we should be beating has, for two weeks in a row, placed their people perfectly to avoid our heaviest hitters. It might just be dumb luck, but what I've learned in life is to assume the worst and plan for it.

On my server, spying has rarely been a problem since most members are immediately white-listed when they are accepted so none can spy. It was only a problem before white list. Though we had slacked off on that, once we did the leader of a rival group (who was away for a while) came back. That war they beat us and the strongest group on the server. We are the second strongest with more ppl but less of the top 20.They avoided all of the dangerous lands, both vs us and the strongest and for that week won. Now only the ppl who have talked in discord for a long time and been in the group a long time can see our line up. Spying can be annoying but is now easily avoidable with white-list. -
