Whenever the mini client crashes, it leaves behind three ghost copies running in the background. This can add up over time if you don't restart your computer often, or process kill the ghosts. I found this out the hard way when I saw over 100 copies of (non-functional) mini client running in the background. The slow down went away after getting rid of those ghost mini clients.
