So I've been reading a lot of the complaints on forums regarding server merges and I must admit, at first I was like "Why are you complaining? You can do events again etc", but now, after undergoing a merge, I completely know were they are coming from. Firstly, the two servers that merged with my server NEVER needed the merge to begin with. I personally checked both servers and they both had 3-4 groups each with total BP well over 1 million and they both have 5-6 big spending players, their only issue is, they had no competition. Now, at first I was really happy with the merge as it meant meeting new players, events being more exciting etc, but wow was I wrong. In one day of the merge there are only 30 players from my server who actually stayed but 5 who are quiting, then we move onto other servers who are struggling badly, so badly that they can't even do events since they never happen and they are STILL waiting now. Little do they know that once their server does eventually merge, they're going to be up against players with BP 30k+ higher than theirs and so they quit.

My server is basically the Hidden Rain village, we were fine on our own, a little quite but still got on with daily activities, but then, the two neighbouring villages wanted more, they wanted more people to fight so they decide to face each other and guess what? Our Hidden Rain village is stuck right in the middle, constantly falling prey to these big villages because none of us have the power to fight back and so...my village, my server and it's players, are dead.

This is a WARNING to all new servers and new players, both mildly P2P and F2P, try and keep your server ALIVE, don't get to the point were you need a merge to be able to do events because I guarantee that the merge will kill your server off.

  • They merge servers weirdly.

First they pick the servers that will receive a merge not on the server's activity, but rather by what servers ask for it. On top of that they take the word of paying players much more than non-playing. So if your server has a VIP in it, and that VIP feels that your server needs a merge chances are that you are getting a merge.

Then there is how they choose who gets merge with who. I have no idea how they do it, to me it seems almost random. My server got merged with a server that was much much stronger th*, and another that was much weaker th*.
That's what's happened with us, only both the servers have 90% big spenders. Apparently they're merging servers that are relatively close to each other in terms of how old they are which is wrong, they should be looking at each server and finding out which server has the same average BP with them.

  • You know there is one way to make merger less problematic and still have the ptws get their merger when they want it.
When merger is done on "request", they are always merged upward to servers that didn't request it.
Merge upward is defined as: the requesting server have a lower average BP, lower top ftp BP and lower top player(ptw) BP than the server they are merged into.
What I really worry about is toxic super ptw (note NOT all super ptw are toxic, but you know some are) kill their server, request merge and get it, proceed to kill their new server and repeat. But dumping them in a stronger server with stronger ptw(who hopefully aren't toxic) will hopefully curb their toxicity, and that's why I suggest "requested" merge should go upwards.

If no one request merger, then they can go find low activity servers to merge "normally"
Honestly, I know the P2P are who are keeping the money in the developers pockets but at the end of the day, a LOT of F2P players enjoy this game a lot and put just as much time and effort into it as most and they should really get the benefit of the doubt, atm, F2P players are just training themselves up to be test dummies for the stronger players.

Honestly, it would be easy for them to create a new team who's primary role is a sort of match-making role to find servers who are balanced in power, there would be no need to worry about the activity of either server since the merge alone will increase activity.
