If you can't find a good team for Fire or Strong Approaching then Fire might not be for you. I have been Fire since day one and continue to use Fire now.

Also, Hidan Strong Approaching can be done with Kimimaro, Tayuya, Kabuto, and Fire Main, as the guide prior to 2.0 suggests.

It worked just fine for me, I just used slightly different talents. Sure I didn't get "The Strongest" title, but I only do hard for the medium threads. Gamachu works all the same, Gamaken is just slightly stronger.
