Locking the "Shape Up Oasis..." thread was understandable since the point had been made and it had been forwarded to Oasis team.

But locking the other thread was unnecessary since the information that was inquired wasn't yet provided, also the reasoning that was provide for the locking was extremely vague and didn't suit the purpose of the thread. This was most likely an attempt at sweeping it under the rug or something similar instead of bringing light to the subject.
From their point of view this is probably the correct course of action since it encourages people to come out and express their opinions if the guidelines are very clear what you can and can't do.

Note: Most of the things I say here are mostly speculations made from the actions that have been taken.
