It is exactly the same battle format however instead of earning points over the course of the tournament the format changes to single eliminations.

As mentioned above this means there isn't a huge initiative to go for all lands especially if you're not a huge group. 8 - 7 - 5 is a pretty sound strategy and our group used it to qualify this week even though we were against the Top Dog in the qualifiers :P.
