Well.. to defeat someone higher level than you, you will need lots of power.
Refines should be at least lvl 4, equipment fully upgraded. Magatamas at least lvl 3 or 4, your ninjas should be fully awakened. Your ninjas' moods are also important to gain power, group skills as well. Tactics give looots of power, so I recommend to invest some coupons into it, also armour gives lots of power so rank 3 is a must.
