If you think about it, Hidan could've easily been the strongest villain in Naruto, even surpassing Kaguya. All he needs is a bit of your blood, as long as you yourself aren't immortal, you're pretty much done for. Mixed with HIS immortality, he's a force to be recokened with BUT-
Hidan's downfall was he was hardly good in any shinobi art. His TaiJutsu/NinJutsu/GenJutsu all bad. He was more of a brawler/widly swing around his scythe kind of ninjas. Say, if he had actually trained in the other ninja arts, actually become S rank in pure SKILL...he could've been the strongest.

Now I know you're gonna say "But he was beaten by shikamaru, he is weak". But that just adds to the point he was horrible in any other type of ninja arts. If he had actual S Rank Tai and Nin, he would've killed shikamaru. Easily.

Now put him against Kaguya and Madara that could say put him in another dimension and boom, he's done. Well true. Putting him in another dimension or just slicing him up in itty bitty pieces would be the only way to beat him and that is technically what he did due to the fact hidan as no strategic mind or skill.

Now imagine a Hidan with a calm head, strategic mind, and actual S rank skill in the shinobi arts. He would no doubt be the strongest.

What do you guys think about this?

IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T SEEN ENTIRE 4TH GREAT NINJA WAR IN NARUTO SHIPPUDEN, DON'T READ THIS POST. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD :)

Well, you can't have all XD I don't think there was any Naruto character that had both pure strength in every ninja art, AND was strategic. Fact is, Hidan has none, which drags him down a lot. The only example I could really think of is Sasuke, as he was good in Taijutsu, good in Genjutsu, amazing in Ninjutsu, and had wits to outsmart many. And he has cool powers on top of that XD

Kaguya lacked wits, she was easily caught of guard, outsmarted, and eventually due to the fact she underestimated her opponents (like letting Kakashi and Obito live for so long instead of killing them on the spot), she was beaten by Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura.

Madara had a really sad story. Thinking he has all, when in the end he got really badly notified, how outsmarted he really was.

Zetsu had all the wits he could, but no powers to use his wits properly

Pain had wits, but he lacked the ability to predict his opponents. Always relying on somebody's else powers, and not training his own. I mean, he didn't really use much ninjutsu himself, rather Rinnegan, his Taijutsu skill was average, but also Rinnegan enchanced, and Genjutsu was a nightmare to face (kinda funny while we got info that Rinneg*ers are immune to genjutsu xD)

Those are only few examples, but I guess I made my point :v Having a character with all skills, power, and wits would be really weird. I am personally not a big fan of Sasuke being this overpowered, but what can you do :v

Well, his lack of skills + his lack of strategy and reckless / hasty behavior are all big weaknesses... but I guess he had to be balanced out to avoid being too "overpowered" compared to other characters.

He is a religious zealot, his immortality came from the Jashin faith experiments. We do not know whether Jashin is "real" and whether the immortality only works while he is a Jashin zealot or if his abilities came from "just experiment".
If it is not actually faith connected, then yes, he could in theory also gain a calm mind and find tactics that are more suitable to his abilities, for example, infiltration and stealth--just get some blood as stealthy as possible, run away, do the ritual, it's game over.

But if any part of his ability actually came from the religious zeal itself, then it won't work, because any of that directly contradicts with the faith and doesn't qualify as "zeal" in any faith.

Well, his Dear Beloved Lord Jashin, still hasn't avenged his only known follower, Shikamaru is still fine, so I assume it's not connected with religion :x

When have gods ever avenged their followers? In how many piece of work have you seen that? I can't recall any....

Religion is..... interesting. So many churches spread the disproportional response of punishment versus reward. For every one billion believer, one is rewarded, but for every two person who turn against their deity, they are punished (disbelievers, as opposed to believer who turn against them, are largely ignored). Are the churches trying to make their own god into evil selfish and vengeful beings? Is that why they do not avenge their followers?

It's wrong to say Hidan wasn't that gifted in Taijutsu, especially when the Naruto-verse considers weapons use as part of the Taijutsu suite . If you try to be good with a scythe in real life you'all notice he was pretty good with it, a clumsy and awkward weapon at the best of times, unlikely to actually kill a target, but very likely to cause wounds of some kind, either puncturing or slashing. Shikamaru even comments on this fact, surmising the exact reason Hid*es a weapon like that rather than just a sword. He does have a sword as well, and he proves he c*e it as more than just a backup or ritual killer.

However, like the other big bads, what has been insinuated, Hidan's flaw is his arrogance and blind ignorance. He knows he's immortal, so he acts like nothing the opponent does actually matters. He throws himself into battle, amuses himself by watching 'pitiful displays of his opponent's jutsu and tactics because he knows they won't do anything to him he has to care about. Even losing his head didn't teach him that he should probably be a lot more careful, so he just blindly carried on as though nothing had happened.

He's a dumbass, basically. An arrogant, *y idiot. Not in the single-minded Naruto kind of idiot way, in the kind that refuses to learn from mistakes or think through his opponent's tactics too much.... but even that isn't 100% correct. Hidan does pay attention, does look for flaws in defences and ways to get that kill-shot in. He plans towards achieving his one goal of killing his opponent, it's just he doesn't stop to consider too much what the enemy intends, believing they will just dumbly (to him) try to kill him with attacks he is basically immune to.

He's also the perfect bad-guy to complete Shikamaru's growth to adulthood. Hidan is a puzzle to be solved, Asuma's great skill and heart didn't prove to be enough to win out and neither Ino nor Choji had the abilities to defeat him either at that point. Heck, even fully Kurama-Sage'd Naruto wouldn't be able to defeat him. Hidan just couldn't be taken out by anyone else (except Tobi perhaps, and by extension, Kakashi if he'd known about what actually happened when Kamui is activated at that point)

Should also add, Hidan's demise proves that if you want to mess with someone, don't mess with Shikamaru

I meant it as weird, since we haven't seen any other followers ;p

I personally adore Noragami's look at gods, as when they stop being believed in, they can't be ressurected after death. I personally would find it peculiar, if those rules applied, and Jashin made nothing of it :v

Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan's weapon... have you seen that weapon? I think if Hidan had it, he would have 1000% higher kill rate :v

Hidan should come back during the current arc if he's not dead ofc. Just to see that they lost and everyones much stronger. Give him a powerup and man. Would be a good arc.
